IslandPaint File Format Filter Update

• New Filter Programs:

  IslandPaint is in transition from using its own proprietary file format filter (conversion) programs to using software provided by ImageMagick Studio. ImageMagick Studio is a non-profit organization dedicated to making software imaging solutions freely available. Users are encouraged to visit their website at: http://www.imagemagick.org

  We are currently integrating the ImageMagick filter programs into IslandDraw. These filters will be available for download soon.

• File Formats:

  ImageMagick supports a wide array of file formats. For a complete list, visit: http://www.imagemagick.org/www/formats.html

• Installation:

  The ImageMagick conversion programs require the use of Ghostscript in order to convert to/from PostScript and PDF. Unfortunately, Aladdin prohibits distribution of ghostscript by commercial vendors (like us). However, it is freely available in several formats. Ghostscript is a popular product and, in fact, it may already exist on your system. Check with your system administrator or check /usr/local/bin to see whether you already have it.

  Ghostscript packages for Solaris are available at SunSITE: http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/packages/solaris/sparc/

  Tar files are available at the Aladdin site: http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/AFPL/get700.htm

IslandWrite now imports all of the following file formats:

• DCA/RFT IBM spec SC23-0759-0
• FrameMaker MIF 3, 4, 5
• HTML
• Interleaf IAF 4, 5, 6
• IslandWrite
• Troff (-man, -me, -mm, -ms)
• Word for DOS, through 6
• Word for Windows 2, 6, 7
• Word 97
• Word RTF
• WordPerfect 4.2, 5.x, 6.x, 7, 8

Improved features with this update include:

• Correction for mistaken identifications of many source formats
• Character styles are now supported for WordPerfect, FrameMaker, Interleaf and HTML
• Conversion of Fast Saved Word documents
• Linked graphics support has been added for some conversions
• Table of contents markers are now supported in WordPerfect and Word formats
